Human Rights And The Elderly

AEQUITAS recognizes the vulnerability of aged persons and advocates the protection of their rights and works towards an elimination of all forms of discrimination against these persons. AEQUITAS recognizes the particular vulnerabilities faced by elderly women. AEQUITAS focuses on several aspects with the aim of ensuring dignity and security for aged persons:

  • Access to human rights
  • Elimination of all forms of discrimination against aged persons
  • Education of aged persons about their human rights
  • Participation of aged persons in society and development
  • Community awareness about the rights of the aged

AEQUITAS also recognizes  the need for the provision of support to families who provide care to aged persons.

In addition, recognizing the universality of human rights and acknowledging the absence of a legally binding international document to serve as a platform for those rights, AEQUITAS calls for a Convention on the Rights of Aged Persons. In view of this, AEQUITAS will advocate this on a national and international level.
